The Client, The Culture:
Our client is a highly respected, forward-thinking international law firm known for its entrepreneurial spirit and collaborative culture. Combining a deeply connected global network with a modern approach to the legal sector, they offer an environment where lawyers are given the autonomy to thrive without the rigid hierarchy of traditional firms.
The Team:
You will join a dynamic, close-knit, and ambitious IP practice in Brussels. Operating as a tight-knit local team backed by a massive international network, this group collaborates daily on cross-border mandates and multi-jurisdictional projects. The team seamlessly integrates with their IT and Data Protection colleagues, sitting at the true intersection of law, innovation, and technology.
The Technical Work
This is a comprehensive, 360-degree IP role spanning advisory, contractual, and contentious matters, with a heavy emphasis on innovation-driven sectors like Life Sciences, Healthcare, and Tech. Key technical responsibilities include:
- Patents & Trade Secrets: Acting as both counsel and litigator in patent disputes before Belgian courts and conducting trade secrets audits.
- Commercial & R&D Agreements: Advising on complex R&D collaborations, drafting technology transfers, and managing IP transactions.
- Soft IP & Designs: Handling trade mark and design mandates from inception through to contentious enforcement.
You:
- 4 to 8 years of dedicated IP law experience gained within a reputable law firm.
- Strong technical grounding in patent and trade secrets law.
- Native French or Dutch speaker with a very good command of the other national language, alongside excellent English.
- Holder of a Belgian law degree with strong academic credentials.
The benefits:
If you are currently feeling ‘stuck’ or invisible at a larger firm, this is your definitive step up. Joining a smaller, highly collaborative team means you will instantly gain the autonomy you’ve been missing, while escaping the bottlenecked promotion tracks of rigid legacy structures. Your work will be highly visible, you will have a direct hand in practice growth, and you will be noticed by leadership from day one. It is a surefire way to accelerate your career and fast-track your progression—all while retaining the high-calibre, international work of a global legal powerhouse.
