My client is globally renowned for its powerhouse antitrust practice, regularly handling high-profile, cross-border merger clearances, landmark cartel investigations, and complex behavioural mandates before both the European Commission and the Belgian Competition Authority (BCA).
This team is built on a collegiate, lean structure. You will work directly with top-tier, tier-1-ranked partners, gaining early client exposure and genuine accountability from day one. You will have a pivotal role within a collegiate team in Brussels whilst playing an important role within a wider global team.
The Role:
Working within a highly sophisticated, cross-border team, you will advise multinational corporations and financial institutions on:
- Merger Control & FDI: Structuring multi-jurisdictional filings and navigating foreign direct investment clearances.
- Investigations: Defending clients through high-stakes cartel and abuse of dominance probes.
- State Aid & Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR): Navigating evolving regulatory frameworks at the EU level.
- Domestic & EU Litigation: Contributing to high-profile appeals before the EU courts and domestic Belgian authorities.
Your Profile
Because this team acts on both abstract EU-level filings and highly local Belgian antitrust matters, the linguistic and academic requirements are strict:
- Native or fluent professional proficiency in Dutch is non-negotiable. You must be comfortable drafting legal submissions and conducting client business in Dutch. A strong command of French is highly advantageous.
- Academic Background: A strong academic track record, ideally supplemented by an LL.M. in European/Competition Law.
- Qualifications: Qualified to practice in Belgium and registered (or eligible to immediately register) with the Brussels Bar.
- Experience: 1–3 years of specialised competition law experience from an international firm, a leading domestic boutique, or a distinguished regulatory traineeship (e.g., DG COMP).
For you:
Premium Remuneration: Highly competitive international law firm salary package, including comprehensive benefits.
Elite Mandates, Supportive Culture: Work on the market’s most complex antitrust cases within a firm explicitly praised for its work-life balance and collaborative environment.
Transparent Career Path: A clearly defined global progression framework with no moving goalposts.
